Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Schuster

Wolfgang Schuster studied law, obtained a doctorate in civil law and went on to study at the École Nationale d’Administration (ENA) in Paris. Important stages of his career took him to Schwäbisch Gmünd in 1986, where he was Mayor for seven years, and subsequently to Stuttgart, where he was Deputy Mayor for Culture, Education and Sport for four years up to the beginning of 1997  and thereafter Mayor for 16 years. Wolfgang Schuster has been a member of the German Council for Sustainable Development since 2013 and Chairman of the Executive Board of the non-profit foundation Deutsche Telekom Stiftung since the beginning of 2015. Among other offices he holds, he is Chairman of the European Foundation for Education, Honorary President of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) in Brussels and Honorary Vice President of the global network United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) in Barcelona.
