Born in Bonn, Germany in 1996, Myriam Rapior is a German business economist and conservationist. Since 2020 she has worked as a PhD candidate and research associate in the Chair of Strategic Management at the University of Hamburg, where her research focuses on sustainable supply chain management, due diligence checking and stakeholder engagement.
From 2019 to early 2022, Rapior was a member of the executive committee of BUNDjugend and youth representative on the executive committee of BUND (German Federation for the Environment and Nature Conservation). In November 2022 she was elected Vice President of BUND.
In 2022 she received the honorary prize of the German Environmental Award for her work on the Commission on the Future of Agriculture.
Myriam Rapior was appointed to the German Council for Sustainable Development in January 2023.

Let’s get to it: What does sustainability mean to you? What do you associate with the term?
Myriam Rapior: Sustainability means harmony between people, nature and animals.
What is your personal priority in your work as part of the Council for Sustainable Development?
As part of the RNE, I want to make my enthusiasm for environmental sustainability felt and strive for change in the economy and society. Protecting both the climate and biodiversity takes top priority here.
In the context of sustainability, what do you believe will pose the greatest challenge in the coming years?
The greatest challenge will be learning to function within planetary boundaries. We need to transform each and every economic process at play to minimise their impact on nature and ensure the economy operates in harmony with the environment. This also includes reducing global social inequality.
